Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) makes a beautiful addition to any pond or water garden. Velvety foliage that spreads across the surface and may produce inconspicuous white flowers. Very easy growers, these plants are great for surface coverage and algae elimination. Be warned they are very sensitive to cold yellowing below 50 degrees. They also provide a protection from predators for koi and other fish—especially important for vulnerable young fish. For more vigorous growth, add a teaspoon or two of Miracle Grow® every 8–10 days.
